My mom & I have not always had the greatest mother~daughter relationship. When she found out I was pregnant, things started to change. She was so anxious to find out if we would have a boy or girl. When I shared with her that I wanted a girl, she told me, “Bootys, you have a girl first. When you have a girl, you have a “friend for life;” a boy will get married & move away.“ I never forgot this statement. In fact, I think about it a lot when I think about how our relationship has evolved since Ashlyn’s birth. Over the past 5 years, we’ve been through a lot of arguments, which usually consist of us making-up the way we always do…just forgetting about it. When I look at this picture, I see a mother & daughter that look so happy, and we are, but it hasn’t always been that way. It doesn’t matter, because regardless of what happens with me & mom, when I see this picture, I know I have a “friend for life.”
