Someday Challenge

by HapEScraprMar 7, 2010
Journaling:

Someday my house will be clean for longer than an hour. Someday it will be quiet enough to hear myself think or have a Conversation with your Dad. Someday I will have time to sit and enjoy the peaceful morning on the screened in porch. Someday I will not have to step over action figures in every room of the house. Someday I won’t find juice pouches in the couch and behind the furniture. Someday I will be able to watch something besides cartoons on TV. Someday we will be able to park our cars in the garage because there will not be so many toys in there that they don’t fit. Someday I will be able to have a phone conversation uninterrupted. Someday I will no longer hear you calling my name the minute I sit down to do something. Someday I will be able to eat my bowl of ice cream without having to share. Someday I will be able to sleep through the night each night without being woken up to hunt for lost socks or listen for strange noises. Someday I won’t have to rush home to make sure someone is there to get you off the bus. Someday I won’t have to rescue you from strange places you have climbed or chosen to hide. Someday I will not have to go on wide goose chases for things you can’t find that you never actually looked for in the first place. Someday I won’t have to tell you not to pout makeup under your eyes. Someday I won’t have to keep tying your shoes. Someday I won’t have to answer the same question 25 times. Someday there won’t be dirt from the ball field tracked across my clean floor. Someday I won’t find sports equipment on the kitchen counter. Someday I can wear clothes that have to be ironed. Someday I will have time to read books that don’t have pictures.

But someday you won’t think I know everything. You won’t think I am cool enough to hang out with. There won’t be silly giggles or funny faces. You won’t want to cuddle or tell me about your day. Someday I will miss the sound of your feet pounding across the upstairs floor. Someday I will miss your unique pronunciation of words and your simple perspective of the world and life. Someday you won’t see the world with innocence or share your latest new discovery. The time will come when you will make your own choices and your own mistakes. Before I know it Mommy will be Mom and then Grandma. I will miss the silly songs you make up and the nuggets of childhood wisdom that make me laugh. I will miss how easily you laugh and how much everything is an adventure. Someday you won’t beg to help me anymore, I will have to twist your arm. Someday you will be too big to hold my hand and too embarrassed to run to me and say “Mommy, I love you.” Before I know it you won’t be my baby anymore and I will be sad that your childhood is over.

I will miss this. I will want this back. I will wish these days hadn't gone by so fast.
