My first jaunt into Wildlife Rehab. Actually with how wonderful the body functions are in buzzards there is little one can do to actually rehab so they can once again sore in the sky. They become land dwellers because their bones heal so quickly, they do not get sick and they do not get infections. Buzzy has taught me so much about sudden adjustments and to learn how to deal with those adjustments quickly. I've discovered how smart they are and slowly he/she is allowing me closer in his space if he/she feels there is an quick out. And they aren't dirty birds, I watch Buzzy as he/she preens and just recently his feathers are beginning to shine again.

This is a picture I took when I still had to be at least 15 feet away enjoying leftover stew. The wing that broke is the one towards the camera (left). How nice to have him/her pick the meat out so all I have is veggies to go in the compost pile. Now Buzzy will follow me the length of the porch as I feed him at the end when Larry is here, because Belle always sneaks by and takes his food. He'll eat between a half pound to a pound of meat a day. He is now leaving the house sometimes for 48 hours. As I said he/she is adjusting. Belle is a German Shorthair Pointer and she has learned I get very upset over this bird. So she goes up to him, he hisses and she turns away. According to Belle this bird is just part of the family like Lynn's parrot.
