October 2008 Creative Team Challenges!

Challenges to jumpstart your creativity

It’s October!  And that means we are gearing up for cooler weather, upcoming holidays, and possibly more time indoors.  What a perfect time of year for scrapbooking!  Here is your monthly dose of inspirational challenges from the ACOT Creative Team:

Ad Inspiration Challenge – By MamaK321 (Kristianne)

Paper or Digital

Ad inspiration is about taking ideas, such as colors, patterns, title or keywords, theme, font styles, and element placement, and using them to create your own layout. You can  break the ad inspiration down to a basic sketch, copy a prominent design straight from the ad, or you can alter a design to fit your own layout. Most ads are 8.5×11" but you can adapt the ad to fit any size. Remember, this is not a sketch and you are not required to follow every detail. The key is to really LOOK at the ad and find the pieces that INSPIRE you!

Card Challenge – By bluejeans7 (Angela)

Paper or Digital

I have a simple and fun card challenge for you this month.  I want you to create a Halloween or Fall card using only stickers, paper and cardstock.  Inking and doodling is fine too.  Then brighten the day of a fellow ACOT Cherry by sending your beautiful homemade card to them!

Color Challenge – by Art_Teacher (Laura)

Paper or Digital

October is probably my favorite month of the year…what’s not to love?  Falling leaves, crisp nights, sunny days, the smell of campfires, apples and cider, toasted marshmallows, snuggling under a blanket…I love autumn!  At the end of September and beginning of October, where I live, summer gives way slowly to fall, with afternoons of bright sunshine and no humidity.  This is when it is most pleasant to be outside.  The colors I have chosen for this month’s color challenge come straight from this beautiful time of year…sky blue, golden yellow, sage green, and brown are the colors I see most and I challenge you to use all 4 colors in a layout.  It doesn’t have to be a fall layout, but you need to use those colors, as I have in my sample layout below.

Journaling Challenge – By Mommybruno (Cassandra)

Paper or Digital

Fear Factor: The month of October means many things to many people, but to me it’s all about Halloween! I’ve always been a big fan of that holiday, especially all the spookiness that goes along with it. With that in mind, the challenge this month is to journal about something that scares you. Are you afraid of the dark? Spiders? Cantelope? Get those fears out on paper and share them with the rest of us!

Let the Music Move You Challenge – By Kimandasmo (Cindy)

Paper or Digital

 —Let The Music Move You—

Here is a new monthly challenge for you- every month I will pick a song or maybe an album or maybe the artwork for an album. I want you to use it as your isnspiration for a layout. This month I decided to start with song lyrics — ones that everyone should be able to grab some inspiration from. It is ——– LOVE ME TENDER  by Elvis!!!!

Here are the lyrics–
Love me tender,
Love me sweet,
Never let me go.
You have made my life complete,
And I love you so.

Love me tender,
Love me true,
All my dreams fulfilled.
For my darlin I love you,
And I always will.

Love me tender,
Love me long,
Take me to your heart.
For its there that I belong,
And well never part.

Love me tender,
Love me dear,
Tell me you are mine.
Ill be yours through all the years,
Till the end of time.

(when at last my dreams come true
Darling this I know
Happiness will follow you
Everywhere you go).

Here is my example–

Manufacturer Challenge – By 4peasinourpod (Pam)

Paper only

They came on the scene in America with pearls and rhinestones, as well as incredible alterable products.  This Australian company has now included paper, rubons, flowers and other amazing products.  They are one of the hottest new scrapbooking companies…KaiserCraft!  The value and quality of their products is hard to beat, and the fact that the paper is double sided gives you even more product for your money.

I created a layout using the Fun in the Sun line:

Pick an Element Challenge – By suslvgeo (Sus)

Paper or Digital

This is for a new monthly challenge by me. It will be to pick an element from a layout example I give you. Basically I will highlight a fellow ct gal’s layout and I will have picked one element. It could be a shape on the layout, the title, the color combo, clustering or in my case this month, the rub on stitching. Basically an element from the layout highlighted is what you will need to use.

I chose the rub on stitching element for my LO:

Scrap Your Life Challenge – By nun69 (Angie)

Paper or Digital

For this new challenge we will be challenging you to dig down deep and scrap those moments in your life that you may not normally scrap about…things such as childhood memories, your bucket list, write a letter to your 16 year old self, scrap about that special childhood birthday that always brings back good memories, what are those regrets that you have in life, etc.

So for this very 1st challenge I challenge you to scrap about the “Simple Things in Life” that make your everyday life worth living…it can be anything from your family, to your faith, to your pets, to just being healthy and getting up every morning…so dig down deep and Scrap YOUR Life!

{p.s. THANKS to Tracy for the WONDERFUL template to work with!}

here is my LO….

Sketch Challenge – By Laura Fiore and 4peasinourpod (Laura and Pam)

Paper or Digital

Jodie(2rowdyboys) was generous enough to let us use one of her sketches for the October Sketch Challenge! She has a sketch blog filled with very cool, doable sketches. Sketches are the perfect way to get the creative juices flowing…you can follow them exactly, or use them as a jumping off point to your own design. This month, show us what you can do with this sketch:

Theme Challenge – By ScrapGoo (Jess)

Paper or Digital

Did you know that October is full of food inspiration?  October is National Popcorn Popping Month, Seafood Month,  Cookie Month, Nation Vegetarian Month, Eat Country Ham Month, National Pizza Month AND has National Angel Food Cake Day, World Egg Day, National Dessert Day, National Nut Day, World Pasta Day, Oktoberfest, and of course Halloween!  (phew!) For this month’s Theme Challenge I want to see you scrap something food related.  It could be your latest food obsession (like my LO about biscuits), a favorite meal, the massive pile of tempting Halloween candy you’ve got, or your family’s most loved meal for example.  Just show us something edible!

Trends & Techniques Challenge – By katarria (Kathy)

Paper or Digital

With so much worry about the economy, it’s more important than ever to use up our scraps!  This month, I want to see you make two projects using the same set of papers/embellishments.  In my example I used American Crafts patterned paper and felt embellishments to make one layout and three cards.  I used scrap cardstock for the cards and then die cut the titles so I wouldn’t waste chipboard!  Let’s see how thrifty you can be!!
