Articles : Creative Team Digi Reveals

Clip It, Cut It, Mask It

using the digital masking technique

Have you ever wondered what exactly digital masks are and how to use them on your layouts?  Well then, we hope this weeks digi CT reveal will help enlighten you. They can go by different names, like clipping masks, shaped templates, masking templates, etc.  They all follow a few simple steps to give your layouts a  variety of different effects; from using them to tear a hole in your paper to creating a work of art out of your photos!  There are many Mask products available here in the digital shoppe.

Future Captain by BeatrizS {June Digi Guest CT}
~ Beatriz created this layout using the Clipping Masks set #5 by Kim Hill, on both photos.

Army by Keling
~ Sara used a mask from Julie Mead's new "Super Sized Photo Masks" set. She says, "instead of using it to mask a photo, I cut-out a section of the paper, revealing the sand beneath."

 Cousins by mckdaisy

~ Amanda says: “I have just started playing with masks but I love that you can take a picture or paper and grunge it up or make it look soft and fancy. They are really easy and a great addition to a page.”

You Are My Whole World by nun69

~ Angie says: “so we used masks for this week's reveal and what a perfect way to show of this great picture of Abby and Peyton than by using one of Julie Mead's Super Sized Photo Masks....these are a lot of fun to play with and you can do lots of things with them, so give them a try :)”

Soccer Spring 2009 by Smile-Scrap8

~ Ronny says: “I found these great small scribbled masks in the shop by Christine Haskell. Now the were a little too small for what I wanted so I actually used 6 different scribbles rotated, flipped and merged together to get the size I was looking for to mask my photos. And I really love the look it gave my tradition soccer team photos.”

The Courtyard  by mayerkt

~ Karin also used the Super Sized Photo Masks by Julie Mead, but for a different look, she blended the masked photo into the background, layered beneath her journaling.

Brothers by janello

~ Janell says: “love clipping masks because of the simple way they add an artistic element to your layout. This layout was effortless with Julie Mead's super sized Masks and doodling templates which can be used just like masks. I love the way it turned out with the photo of my two boys Alex and Sean.”

Fly With Me by dianagirly

~ Diana says: “One of my favorite things about masks is how it more subtly blends your photo into the background. In my layout, I used a mask by Kim Hill and changed my photo to sepia so that it's like your peeking through to another world.”
Daddy and Jasmine 2008

Love Always  by Art_Teacher

~ Laura used two different types of masks on her layout; a shape mask and a photo mask, to get one really great look.

Step Up! by MamaK321
~ Kristianne created her own mask using a basic font and clipping it to her patterned paper.
