August Challenges!

The CT wraps up Summer with some HOT challenges for you!

August already??  Where did the Summer go?! I don't know about you but *I* am very excited to see what Kristin and the gals are bringing home from the CHA show in Orlando!  What a way to wrap up July.  If you're like me you have quite a stash of supplies that need to get used before you can fill up your basket with new goodies.  This set of August challenges are the perfect way to get you digging into your supplies!  You'll even see some new challenge categories this month.

Remember:

- only one LO per challenge will enter you into the points drawing

- LOs cannot be entered into more than one challenge category

- *please* only enter LOs that meet the specific challenge instructions

Ad Inspiration Challenge - By MamaK321 (Kristianne)

Paper or Digital

Ad inspiration is about taking ideas, such as colors, patterns, title or keywords, theme, font styles, and element placement, and using them to create your own layout. You can break the ad inspiration down to a basic sketch, copy a prominent design straight from the ad, or you can alter a design to fit your own layout. Most ads are 8.5x11" but you can adapt the ad to fit any size. Remember, this is not a sketch and you are not required to follow every detail. The key is to really LOOK at the ad and find the pieces that INSPIRE you!

Card Challenge - By bluejeans7 (Angela)

Paper or Digital

For this challenge you can you any colors you want and the theme is your choice. Create a card based from this "recipe"

-4 different pattern papers

-1 sticker

-bling

-doodling & inking

Color Challenge - by Art_Teacher (Laura)

Paper or Digital

August is here and sometimes I find myself in a scrapping rut when the weather gets hot and the lazy days of summer take over. To get out of that rut, I try to find inspiration in the new kits in the digi shoppe! This time I was inspired by Jeanelle Paige's new free kit, "Tranquility." The colors are a gorgeous combination of pale blue, deep red, and cream, and so those are the colors of this month's challenge! Jeanelle's kit is free, so I have an extra bonus prize for some lucky person who uses her free kit in their layout. This can be either a hybrid or digi layout, so paper gals, now is your chance to try a hybrid layout. I will put the names in a hat and draw a random name for a prize from me! Of course, anyone who completes the challenge will have their name put in for the random points drawing.
Here is Jeanelle's kit:

Here is my example layout:

Digi CT Reveal Challenge - By Janello (Janell)

Paper or Digital

The Digi CT Reveal challenge for the month of August comes from the "There's no place like home" Digital CT reveal found here. Create a layout about your favorite room in your house, what home means to you, or your take on the "home" theme.

Layout example: Home is where your heart is by Janello

Digi Designer Challenge - By MamaK321 (Kristianne)

Digital only

This month's featured designer is Julie Bullock. Create your layout using any of her products available in the ACOT Digital Shoppe.

Digi Do-Able Challenge - By davsar and Smiley-Scrap8 (Sarah and Ronny)

Digital only

Welcome to another edition of Digi Do-Ables! Each month we'll be highlighting one of the wonderful scrappers here at A Cherry On Top. You never know who we might select, and each scrapper who has their layout featured will receive 100 ACOT points! This month we chose kittymomma's "Mr Sandman" layout.

For this challenge, go to the Digi Shoppe and download the free template. Then, use that template to create your own layout. Flip it, change it, or just use it as it is, it's up to you.

Digi Technique Challenge - By FairyMouseMom (Egle)

Digital only

Challenge: To color something in your layout. Here I used a similar shade from my background paper that I used. I colored the white portion of the alphabet (word "destiny") to a shade of blue from the background paper used. Do this to blend your element into your layout and create a softer look to it.

Everyday Inspiration Challenge - By davsar (Sarah)

Paper AND Digital

This month let's see the "Tools of Your Trade". Maybe you are an accountant and always need a calculator OR a baker that owns a ton of baking sheets. Personally, I am a SAHM who spends 50% + of her time keeping the house and yard in one piece - so I focused on my cleaning supplies. Can't wait to see what helps you get through all your work!!

Faithbooking Challenge - By Keling (Sara)

Paper or Digital

HOPE

Your challenge is to create a page (digital or paper) that represents HOPE. It is not necessary to use any of the quotes or scripture verses given, as they are to help guide you in creating your page. Feel free to use your own verses or quotes.

When preparing for this month's challenge, I was surprised at how well the Encyclopaedia Britannica hit the mark in describing Christian Hope. We can hope for better days and good weather, or hope that a friend will remember a special day, but these pale in comparison to the hope we have in Christ.

Our hope in Christ is not a wishy-washy hope, but a know-so hope. It is based in the promise that Christ will come again, and that He will provide all our needs. God keeps His promises.

"His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness. Through these He has given us His very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires." 2 Peter 1:3-4

QUOTES
"If God can bring blessing from the broken body of Jesus and glory from something that's as obscene as the cross, He can bring blessing from my problems and my pain and my unanswered prayer. I just have to trust Him." ~ Anne Graham Lotz

"I've read the last page of the Bible. It's all going to turn out all right." ~ Billy Graham

"You’ve got to believe that God is in control of your life. It may be a tough time but you’ve got to believe that God has a reason for it and he’s going to make everything good." ~ Joel Osteen

"What gives me the most hope every day is God’s grace; knowing that his grace is going to give me the strength for whatever I face, knowing that nothing is a surprise to God." ~ Rick Warren

VERSES
Romans 5:1-5 ~ "Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us."

Ephesians 1:18-19b ~ "I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and His incomparably great power for us who believe."

Ephesians 4:4-6 ~ "There is one body and one Spirit--just as you were called to one hope when you were called-- one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all."

Hebrews 10:23 ~ "Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful."

Hybrid Challenge - By Smiley-Scrap8 (Ronny)

Paper AND Digital

Make a layout using a tag or journaling spot printed from a digital kit. You can add your journaling before printing, or hand write it on after printing.  I used a bracket journaling spot from the Space Talk Kit by SAS Designs. I then hand wrote my journaling and added a few other elements from the kit (alien, space ship, stars) around the layout.

Journaling Challenge - By jjenni08 (Jenn)

Paper or Digital

So the last time we had a journaling challenge was in June and it was about family. Surprise, this month's is too. However it is a little different. In honor of the AMAZING time I had at our family reunion this past weekend, I want you to journal about a family member you never get to see but who is very special to you.

Scrapbook Countdown Challenge - By sarahwhithers (Jen)

Paper or Digital

For this challenge you will create a layout using a countdown method of items. I will list five different kinds of things (eg. elements, papers, photos) for you to use in your layout. Every month there will be five new items for you to use.

For this month:
5 - Photos
4 - Buttons
3 - Papers
2 - Alphas
1 - Flower

You are welcome to use more than these items (eg. three flowers instead of the one is fine) just as long as you meet the required list and numbers asked for each. A page example is seen below.

Scrap Your Life Challenge - By nun69 (Angie)

Paper or Digital

Scrap about the not so expected thing/s that have happened in your life... read my journaling for an idea :)

Sketch Challenge - By Laura Fiore and 4peasinourpod (Laura and Pam)

Paper or Digital

Let's get sketchy this month with a cool, simple sketch from Magistical Memories' sketch designer Janelle Lee. This one uses some fun layers and plenty of white space to give the eyes a rest. Use a little, use the whole sketch, the choice is yours!

Theme Challenge - By ScrapGoo (Jess)

Paper or Digital

Summer is the time for family reunions, road trips, and vacations.  This month I want you to scrap about transportation!  Show me those planes, trains, and automobiles.  My example LO is about the seaplane ride my DH and sister got to take at our recent family reunion.
