COSMO CRICKET NUTMEG

Looks awesome…especially when mixed with some Glimmer Mist!

Every once in a while, I like to choose a product line to work with that I think isn’t really my style. You know…one of those that’s cute, and fun, but doesn’t necessarily scream at YOU to use it too, when you see it in the gallery? Cosmo Cricket’s Nutmeg is exactly that for me! I LOVE the woodgrain prints on the backside of the papers, but wasn’t sure I would be able to incorporate the front sides and embellishments too. So, I was pleasantly surprised at just how quickly I was itching to work with these papers when I got my CT supplies this month!

AND, I figured if I was going to jump in with both feet, I wanted to jump in to a few techniques I had been looking at too. As most of you know, layers are my thing…I don’t really invest a lot of time in techniques because I usually think they’re going to take too much time and I’m all about the quick scrapping! One thing I do love, though, is the Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist! And the  misting techniques I chose to do have been calling out to me to try them for a while. So here’s what I ended up with:

Frank & Frances 1946

One of the first things I noticed about the Cosmo Cricket Nutmeg line is that it has a retro vibe to it. The colors and patterns really feel like family, old cabins, and home to me. They prompted me to use some old photos with them! These photos are my husband’s parents, shortly before they got married in 1946…such an adorable couple! I wanted the layout to feel romantic, so I grabbed a paper doily, and used it for a mask for my misting. I used the Terracotta and Vanilla Breeze Glimmer Mists on this one. After the paper dried, I matted the photo with the Clove paper, folded a ribbon strip of the Cinnamon paper, and cut out a title block from the Elements sheet. The old panelling feel of the brown woodgrain paper makes a perfect background and I finished the layout off with some elements from the Fall Vintage Findings kit by Making Memories and a gorgeous Prima flower. The stitching really adds to the vintage feel too, I think.

NOW I SEE

For my next layout, I came forward a few years with my heritage photos. These are of my husband when he was about four years old, and his dad was building our cabin in the mountains. We have since torn down the original cabin (he built it in a weekend…it was ready to fall down!) and built a new one, but these photos made me realize just how much history the cabin holds for my hubby…he REALLY loves the time we can spend there! I went with a playful design, using circles and bright colors. This time I just wanted to change up the background paper a little with the Glimmer mist…since I knew the design of the layout was going to be busy. I used the Key Lime Pie and Patina mists for this one…they were a perfect match for these papers! I distressed the circles, and then hand stitched the down with embroidery floss to get a hand made, homespun look. I also used a border from the Nutmeg Borders and the chipboard alphas for my title.

SISTER STYLE

I moved all the way ahead to 1998 for my next layout…couldn’t resist scrapping about my sister and I and the way we used to dress! I borrowed a technique from Maggie Holmes for my misting on this one. Took a journalling spot, turned it upside down, and used the back side of it as a mask for my journaling and title work. The Glimmer Mists are Vintage Pink and Terracotta, and I have to say, "I LOVE the way this one turned out!" I added a few layers of patterned paper and distressed them too, used a bit of the elements sheet, added a chipboard chandeleir from Magistical Memories and a tiny bit of bling to finish it off! One of my favorite new items this fall too, are the Whimsies alpha sheets from Pink Paislee…I used the Pumpkin ones here, and the Chocolate ones on my first layout above.

Thanksgiving Banner

This paper line really does have some fun, Thanksgiving and fall elements to it, and I wanted to take advantage of all of my leftovers after I finished my layout, so I decided to make a banner to hang on my fireplace for Thanksgiving. I used a Basic Grey Milk Chocolate Stepped Album as the base for it…this album comes with so many pages that I still have enough to do a five page mini album! I traced the pages of the album to get my patterned paper to fit, Glimmer Misted each of the doilies, and went to town with the Elements and Sticker sheets to finish off each of the pieces of the banner. The Fall Vintage Findings kit from Making Memories had some perfect embellishments and I added a few buttons from my stash, along with some big bling gems from Kaiser Kraft.

BEAUTIFUL TO ME CARD

I had just a bit  more paper left, so I made a card! I love these new Fancy Pants Kraft Journaling blocks…so inexpensive and fun to use! I cut mine to shorten it a bit on this one! There are a few more misting techniques and layouts using these products in my gallery if you’d like to take a peek! It was a great feeling to have stepped outside of my usual comfort zone and still have some really fun layouts to show for it…you should try it too!
