Graphic 45 Hallowe'en in Wonderland 13 comments

whimsical and fun

Posted by megamay

When I first saw the sneak peek of this line, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it! I love how it is spooky and Halloween themed, but sweet and whimsical at the same time. I had so many project ideas swirling around in my head and couldn't wait to get started!

The first thing I started on was this altered pumpkin treat  holder. I used a plain plastic pumpkin (like from the dollar store). I spray painted it black, then mod podged strips of paper onto it. then I covered it with a purple paint / mod podge wash to tone down the prints a little and make the cut out images stand out more, before decoupaging the cut out images onto it.

Next, I pulled out some of last year's Halloween photos that I never got around to scrapping. (I might have to order more of this paper for this year's photos.)

I started with the subdued black and sepia papers for this page. I wanted to make the photos really pop. I punched the circle of circles out with my crop a dile big bite. Since I was just putting the punches right next to each other, I didnt measure them, just traced the circle then followed that with my punch, doing one right after another. But I wanted to ink the edges of the tiny punched out circles, since you could see white there. (yes I know Im a little off my rocker)

So I turned the paper over and ran a black ink pad along the circles. BUT I moved the paper a couple of times and the ink smeared onto the front of the paper. oops, so the rest of this layout came together from me trying to cover up my ink smudges.

Next, I just had to do something with the gorgeous cover paper. Originally I was going to cut all the images out, but then I realized that I could keep them all if I just cut the middle out! I had already made my photo into a black and white ink lined drawing like the images from the book. I was going for the idea that my DD riding a horse in her Cinderella costume was just like a fairytale, just like a story in a book.  so, it was simple! A little bit of fussy cutting, position the photos, a title and some journaling and voila!

I used some more photoshop actions on these photos - I made them vintage. Mainly I did this because they weren't great photos to begin with, and I wanted to make the busy background sort of fade away. I also cropped in as closely as I could. I used glossy accents on the die cuts.

Finally, I played with my new Cricut, and created these boxes with the flowers to use as favors at Ellie's bday party.
