What would you like the ACOT members to know about you? Hello Cherries! I am beyond thrilled to be the Guest Creative Team member for September! My birthday is this month, and I couldn't think of a nicer birthday present than to be GCT! I am a stay-at-home homeschooling mom to my almost five year old dd, Avery. My dh, Eddie, and I have been married for 10 years, but we have known each other since the 4th grade! I have been a crafter for as long as I can remember and a scrapbooker since 2001. I became really serious about scrapbooking in 2008, found ACOT that year during the February crop and have been here ever since!
I chose Sassafras Lass Indie Girl for my reveal. This line was way outside my comfort zone! Normally I scrap using bright colors, pinks, purples and turquoises, so the muted colors were definitely a challenge to me.
For my first layout, I converted a color photo of my dd to sepia. I had been wanting to use the lyrics of the song "Find Your Wings" by Mark Harris for quite some time, and this photo seemed to work perfectly for that. I used the backside of the Free Spirit paper for my background. I cut out a set of wings using my "Once Upon a Princess" Cricut cartridge out of glitter cardstock, trimmed it down and embossed it with my Cuttlebug. I attached the wing to my photo and used KaiserCraft bling to embellish it, then matted the photo on metallic DCWV cardstock. I printed out the song lyrics and double matted them on the backside of the Headphones On paper and pink cardstock. I used a combination of the border strips and the border stickers to create a layered strip along the bottom of the song lyrics and photo. I used a combination of the Chocolate and Pink glitter alphas for my title, which is the last three words in the song. Then I finished off the page with Prima bling and flowers with Creative Charms vintage brads for centers.
For my second layout, I wanted to go with a more whimsical feel, so I chose a photo of my sister and myself when we were kids. I used the backside of the Eclectic Elegance paper for my background. I loved the stitching on it, so I found embroidery floss to match it and chose several places to stitch over the printed stitching. I took a Maya Road Tree Album chipboard piece, Smooch Spritzed the trunk with Log Cabin and cut out the tree top from the Affection paper. I added clouds cut using the "Graphically Speaking" Cricut cartridge and the Headphones On paper. I outlined them with backstitching, then stitched a sun peeking out from behind the clouds. I added a banner to the tree from the Flag Banners sticker sheet and embellished it with floss and an acrylic bird. I used Tiny Type letters by Cosmo Cricket and the Chartreuse glitter alphas to spell out my title and then placed a few flowers around the base of the tree.
For my third layout, I was inspired by the backside of the Mellow paper. It felt very Art Deco to me, so I chose to use it to scrap my Great grandparents wedding photo from 1923. I used the backside of the Pocahontas and Me paper to mat the majority of the elements. I used Log Cabin Smooch Spritz on a Technique Tuesday chipboard frame to frame my photo. I layered stickers from the Flag Banners sticker sheet with older Making Memories ribbons to create a strip along the bottom third of the page. I then clustered Prima flowers, gave them KaiserCraft pearl centers and layered a Prima Say It With Pearls corner over the flowers and the chipboard frame. I used Making Memories Passport alphas for my title and the Chocolate glitter alphas for my subtitle.
For my fourth layout, I had an idea for a handmade flower I wanted to use, so I chose to use it on a layout about my mom. I kept this one really simple. I added the border strips from the Mellow paper to DCWV cardstock and matted the photo and flower leaves on a piece of the backside of Eclectic Elegance. I used a Bazzill stitching template to stitch the swirl alongside the photo. For the flower, I used one of the early Flowers on Friday tutorials and then added in stickers cut apart from one of the banners on the Flag Banner sticker sheet for additional petals. I used a Prima flower and a Creative Charms brad for my flower center. The title letters are the Pink glitter alpha.
After I finished my layouts, I wanted to do some altered projects. I had this frame just laying around begging to be altered, and a rub on quote that went perfectly with my photo. I base painted the frame brown, then decoupaged the backside of Free Spirit onto the frame. I Smooch Spritzed two different sizes of chipboard photo corners, one in Log Cabin and one in Navy Twinkle. I used a photo corner punch to punch corners out of the Pocahontas and Me paper, then layered all three photo corners together. I cut a piece of acrylic to fit my rub on quote and adhered the rub on to it. I backed the acrylic with a piece of vellum to make the writing show better. I added a few Prima flowers centered with Pebbles, Inc. Candy Dots and done!
For my last project, I wanted to get a start on some of my Christmas gifts! I hadn't used the front side of the Free Spirit paper yet and wanted to find a way to do so. I cut squares of Free Spirit and the backside of Affection slightly smaller than 1.5"x1.5" and adhered them back to back. I sandwiched the papers between two pieces of Memory Glass and added a Memory Frame. A jump ring, and chain and a clasp and I had a reversible necklace!
I hope you enjoyed my projects and thank you so much for letting me be GCT for September!
