New Day – Scrapbook Layout

New Day – Scrapbook Layout

Today I’m sharing the first project I’ve made with the April Cherry Box. This box is perfect for spring crafting with its colors, florals, sayings, and it includes the “New Day” collection from Echo Park. If you haven’t heard of the Cherry Box yet, it is a monthly paper crafting subscription box filled with paper, embellishments, stickers, mixed media products, and probably something that you haven’t tried before.

I started this page with a watercolor background. I wanted a light sunshiny feel which is why I chose to make most of the background yellow. In my photo, there are yellow daffodils in the background with a few pink tulips so I wanted some pink on the background as well. I made some splatters with both the yellow and pink and painted some pink blobs as well.

I wanted to add a border to my watercolor paper so I cut the page down to 11″ x 11″. Whenever I use a 12″ x 12″ paper for a border I make the most of it by cutting out the center. I used the center to fussy cut out some of the floral clusters. I love adding florals to projects and think they are so easy to add a ton of!

I knew I wanted to add more of the beautiful patterned papers to this spread so I ripped off some corners to layer up and add beneath my photo. This is one of my favorite scrapbooking techniques because it is so easy, adds a ton of texture, raises up the photo, and makes the photo the focal point of the page.

To balance the page, I added my title using one of the ephemera pieces from the collection. I popped it up on foam tape and added fussy cut flowers poking out from behind it. I also ripped up a page from an old book to smush beneath some of my layers.

I added my fussy-cut florals around my photo and popped them up on foam tape as well. I love making more dimensional pages because I think the layers and shadows make a page much more interesting. I think this is especially important when combining a bunch of patterns.

I added a few puffy stickers here and there on the page to finish it off including this cute bee sticker and some hearts above the photo.

This layout is documenting a photo from 20+ years ago of my brothers and me. It feels so good to pull these older photos out of the box in the basement and give them new life on a scrapbook page. I love the bright and springtime look of this page and can’t wait to create more with this Cherry Box! There are more great spoilers ahead of what else is included in the April box, so stay tuned!
