Art Journal Page

I used some of my favorite supplies on an art journal page and enjoyed giving it a winter vibe with a color scheme of cool blue-gray, pale pink (with pops of hot pink), and evergreen green. I also was going for plenty of layers and texture.

The first thing I did was cut a tag from a Simple Stories Life in Bloom cut-apart sheet and spray it with Brutus Monroe Grey Vintage mist (a gray that leans toward blue). I continue to be a little obsessed with cover plate dies, and so I used one from Catherine Pooler (Xanadu) for a black and white base to layer under and over my tag, to which I added some greenery cut with a Tim Holtz and Sizzix die (Festive Gatherings). I used another leafy die cut on the right side, too, over a paper collage made with a background of pale pink paper from Vicki Boutin’s Discover + Create (Discover paper, B side) layered with plaid washi tape from the April and Ivy collection and a bit of Brutus Monroe paper (Tailor Made). I layered another strip of this paper under a scrap of green and pink paper on the left.

My focal point on the right is from Dina Wakley’s Text Profiles stamp set. I’ve been really loving Dina’s stamps for art journaling. I also pulled a few stamps from another set, Tim Holtz’s The Inspector, which has some cool phrases, including Strictly Hand Made, which I stamped on the Discover paper (side A this time), cut out, and stapled in place. I used the small text and number stamps from that set along the edges of my spread. The hot pink on the left side is a rub-on from 49 and Market Artoptions Spice, which I applied over stenciled dots in two sizes (Discover + Create stencil—the Art Layers set) and my blue grey color (Speckled Egg Distress Oxide). If you look closely, you’ll see stenciled dots among the layers on the left side, too.

My finishing touches included adding ribbon to the tag, adding confetti in the form of Brutus Monroe buttons (with a bit of hot pink metallic thread under one) and sequins (Catherine Pooler Radio City). My last addition was the acetate butterfly clip from Discover + Create. I love the blue and green on the wings, which fit my color scheme beautifully!

It’s so relaxing to play and experiment in an art journal. I hope you find inspiration in my spread and my account of the process. The products I’ve chosen here are wonderfully versatile and can be used in so many ways.
