Do you floss regularly????
I am starting too…..
Do you floss?….embroidery floss that is…. How many tangled skeins do you have stuffed in a jar or baggie somewhere? All knotted up and just shoved in a corner? If you are anything like me it is probably quite a few. I decided I really need to organize mine and grabbed my hidden baggie– once I had them all organized they looked all nice and neat and pretty …but I was inspired to actually start using them, and after you see all the neat ways I came up with hopefully you will go hunting for your hidden stash.
In my first example, I chose to use a very simple straight stitch around my photos, sort of as a frame. I also straight stitched around my title block to define it a little better. The embroidery floss along with fantastic feel of the Daisy Bucket papers gives this layout a fantastic texture.
In my next layout 2 layouts I kicked up a little bit and criss crossed my straight stitches. In the first one I used it as lacing all the way up the side of these awesome Little Yellow Bicycle papers.
And on this one I love how the contrasting pink just really "pops" against the green of these Kaiser Kraft papers.
In this next example, I change it up yet again and added some French knot to the awesome Basic Grey papers.
And with these Basic Grey papers I tried to do a little fringing and some whip stitching. For the fringe effect, I tied my floss around a very thin piece of chipboard and then spread out the ends…. not quite what I was going for , but it didn’t turn out to bad.
These last 3 examples ..those of you who are deathly afraid of needles….because you don’t need a needle at all.
I used my floss to create a grid on my edged paper. It not only adds texture but you can use this as a background or it would look great to line up journaling or titles or as little boxes for embellishments.
Here I used two different techniques. I love the awesome colors in the Imaginisce Twitterpated line and really wanted to use more than one color of floss. I used three of the colors in the papers and braided them together the tied off the ends and attached using big brads. I even threw in a glittery metallic blue with this to give it a little pop. For the arrow I just wrapped a piece of chipboard with two different colors of floss. This can be done on almost any chipboard element–and it looks great on titles using alphabet chipboard.
On my Valentines card I used 2 colors and twisted them together than wrapped them around the heart. I thought the Bittersweet line by Basic Grey was just perfect for this.
All in all, whether you stitch it, knot it, braid it or wrap it up…grab your floss from wherever it is hiding and use it on a layout or project sometime soon.
