Documenting Fall Beauty

It’s been fun to move into fall scrapbooking, both in my traveler’s notebook and my 12×12 album, which I am returning to today with a page about the pleasure I take in seeing pumpkins and mums everywhere. A Cherry on Top has stocked an abundance of wonderful supplies for fall scrapbooking, and I’ll show you how I’ve used some of them here.

Documenting Fall Beauty

My starting point for this page is the B-side of 49 and Market’s wonderful Birdsong paper (Journal Cards). I’m always drawn to the light colored, distressed backgrounds because they’re ideal for stamping and colors are vibrant against them. (Note: the back of this paper offers a lovely array of cut-apart cards so you might want two sheets of this one!)

I chose three photos I took outside our local Trader Joe’s, which is so fall-festive. I wanted the photos in what I might call a messy line with one of the photos set off to the far right. Because of the photos, I knew I would be working with oranges and yellows, but I wanted to bring in the compliments, too, so I decided to add lilac and dark teal touches.

I matted two of my photos with paper from American Crafts Farmstead Harvest 6×8 paper pad. The quilt design under my pumpkin photo has gold foiling, which is hard to see in the photograph but very pretty in real life. I made sure to choose touches of paper with foiling (dots and leaves) to place near my other photos and to add some gold sequins to the mix I was planning to use for my finishing touch.

I die cut small labels from a new 49 and Market Bird Song stamp and die set, stamping the backgrounds with lilac and buttercream inks from Catherine Pooler before stamping the ticket design in Ranger archival graphite. One ticket I left white but added orange with a rub-on. There’s a ticket in each of the three main sections of my layout. Because I added lilac to the top right, I stamped a leafy design (Herb Silhouettes by Waffle Flower) in lilac in the lower left corner along with a number from the stamp and die set in Catherine Pooler’s matcha ink, a pretty light green. I repeated this light green on the other side with another botanical stamp from the same Waffle Flower set.

The 49 and Market fall release rub-ons (Bird Song and Vintage Orchard) are beautiful! I chose a dark teal bunch of flowers with a sweet bird to go over my photo on the far left and repeated that teal on the other side with a washi strip and a circle I cut from the strip. Just small touches of the flower color, but I wanted to encourage the eye to move around the page with the repetition of this pretty deep blue-green. And, of course, I needed to include more birds, including one sitting atop the word “photographs.” I also added a couple of Simple Stories chipboard flowers.

I enjoyed typing my journaling on strips, including on orange patterned paper for more color, and adhering them both above and below my photos. With the addition of sequins and a few die-cut leaves, my fall-themed page was finished and ready to be popped in my album. I hope you’re delighted in documenting fall (or whatever season you’re in)!

Hello everyone, I’m Jil Larson. I’m excited to share my projects with you! I’ve been scrapbooking and art journaling for many years now. I first started memory keeping when my nieces (now in their 20s) were little girls and I was looking for a way to tell stories about them and the art they created. From there, my love for this wonderful hobby grew and developed. As a lifelong diary and notebook lover, I’ve also recently been enjoying creative play in sketchbooks and journals.
