How To Create A Layout With Only Two Papers

Looking for a creative way to challenge yourself in scrapbooking? In this post, we’re diving into a fun scrapbook challenge that combines a sketch-based layout with a two-paper limit! Whether you’re a seasoned scrapbooker or just starting, this challenge is a fantastic way to stretch your creativity and make the most of your supplies.

I’ll walk you through my process of using a scrapbook sketch as a guide, selecting two complementary patterned or solid papers, and layering elements to craft a beautiful and cohesive layout.

How To Create A Layout With Only Two Papers

This week I was inspired by the sketch challenge but I also wanted to challenge myself on top of that! I wanted to see if I could create a layout using only two papers from a collection! Luckily we just received this beautiful Home Sweet Home Collection from Mintay Papers in, and I knew I could use it!

In order to follow the sketch challenge, I knew my paper needed to have a large circular element, and the paper I chose was the perfect fit! I began with this paper by taking a crafting knife and tracing the shapes that fell within the frames. This took a lot of patience and focus, and I think it ended up looking pretty good considering it was tough at times to tell what I need to cut!

In addition I need to find something that I could use to create elements on the side like the sketch challenge. That is where the element paper came in handy! I chose to fussy cut a stack of books, a bow, and two floral elements. The florals look like they are part of the paper which I like, and the books and bow add an extra special touch.

Another way I took inspiration from the sketch is by adding splatter paint around the edges of the paper. I used Sizzix Lavender Dust Paint and watered it down, since it was the perfect shade of purple. The last way that I took inspiration from the sketch was to add a title above one of my pictures using the Alphabet Soup Gold Stickers from Doodlebug.

While my layout isn’t exactly like the sketch, I like to just get a bit of inspiration from it and build on that. I also enjoyed challenging myself to only use two papers! It was fun and it allowed me to fussy cut, which I avoid at all costs if I can typically! That’s all! This was super fun, and still a bit of a challenge!
