How to Create A Scrapbook Layout with a Diagonal Design

Good morning, Cherries! Suzanna here today to share with you a 12×12 scrapbook layout created on a diagonal using a new product from Uniquely Creative. There are many foundation design options for a layout, including but not limited to horizontal, vertical, grid, wreath, etc. Today I have created a layout using a diagonal design.

Here’s a look at the completed layout;

First, we need to create the base of the layout. To do this, I used a long metal ruler and an Xacto blade on a self-healing cutting mat to cut one of the papers in half along the diagonal. The top “half” triangle was then adhered on top of the other 12×12 piece of paper. I have now established the main line upon which to create a top/right to bottom/left diagonal.

Maintaining this diagonal emphasis, all my photos and embellishments are laid out on the same diagonal line. I used a 3inch circle diameter metal die to cut out the three photos and a 2.5-inch circle punch to cut out the circular elements from Uniquely Creative Oh Happy Days paper.

Interspersed among the three photos are Creative Cuts, Colorful Butterfly Ephemera (color coordinated to the colors in the flowers on the right), and bows cut with cardstock from my stash and the coordinating Classic Bows Die from the Oh So Happy collection. By tucking and overlapping elements, I was able to create a flow to the layout, as if the elements were cascading or flowing down the diagonal line. Some of these elements are popped upon 1/4 inch foam tape to add dimension to the page.

For the title, I again used coordinating cardstock from my stash and cut that out with the Uniquely Creative Serif – Lower Case metal dies. While I was looking for the subtle tone-ish on tone look, it was too light. To make the letters stand out and work with the dark contrast in the photos, I used a thin black pen to outline each of the letters.
