New Dog Scrapbook Layout
My niece sent me a photo of the adorable dog she and her father, my brother, are currently fostering. I’m hoping they keep this sweetie, but regardless, I want to remember Ray-Ray whether he stays in their lives forever or just for a time.
I chose some pet-themed supplies for this layout, but I’m combining them with something surprising—wedding paper! The American Crafts A Perfect Match collection includes a paper (Reception Paper) with subtle big circles and banner details that I simply love as a background! The black and white alpha in my title is also from A Perfect Match.
After choosing my background and printing the sweet photo my niece took, I mounted the picture on a rectangle of Bright + Beautiful paper from Simple Stories Fresh Air. Since I wanted subtly to suggest not only that this is hopefully a “perfect match,” but also that it’s lucky for both the pup and the humans, I chose So Lucky Paper from the Simple Stories St. Patrick’s Day collection to layer in strips on the right side of my page. I knew I wanted a design that built from opposites sides of the layout.
To these strips, I added Pet Shoppe washi tape from Simple Stories (the adorable images and the colorful hearts on a navy background). On the other sides of the spread, under the photo, I applied the words washi tape from the same set. At this point, I pulled in die cuts from Simple Stories Fresh Air: the camera with the same pattern as on the paper under my photo, flowers, a frog, and a chicken. In addition to adhering these die cuts on both sides of the page, I pulled out the Simple Vintage Spring Garden stamps from Simple Stories, and I stamped first with Tim Holtz Lost Shadow Distress Oxide (bird and hearts) and then with Seafarer and Olive inks from the Ranger Archival line (foliage, hearts, fences). I really enjoyed adding this layer of stamped images to complement the die cuts.
I drew from Simple Stories stickers books for the words on my page (the dog’s name in my title; and “new beginning”), added a stamped date, ink splatters, enamel circles from my stash, and sequins (Mykonos from Catherine Pooler). Finally, I added some machine stitching and journaling in black gel pen beneath my title.
