May 2023 Washi Challenge - Winner
You Cherries never seize to amaze!!! Everyone's pages were amazing. I love all the different backgrounds and the extra ways some of you used your Washi. Kudos to everyone, and from the Number Generator number 9 Sandyk1967 is the winner!!!. Be on the look out for your Gift Card.

WOW WOW WOW!!! What a successful April Washi Challenge we had. I feel bad that I haven't been around this past 2 weeks, but we had a family emergency I had to tend to. I'm back now and can't wait for another successful Washi Challenge. So here it goes....

Long ago I learned to make my own "patterned paper" by using Washi. All you do is take white cardstock and cover it with Washi. You can do this so many different ways and I find that I don't have to use patterned paper at all. The Washi takes over and your page will look amazing. Below are several different ways I've created my own " patterned paper" by just using Washi. Think of your Washi as your patterned paper.

You can cover the entire paper or use strips of Washi like this -
Image Image

You can cover half the paper with Washi like this -
Image Image

You can use the thinner Washi and put it anywhere you like like this -
Image

You can just put strips of Washi behind your photo(s) like this -
Image Image

You can even make a simple banner with Washi like this -
Image

You can even be very simple and add a small amount of Washi like this -
Image

My challenge to you is ~ create a page using all Washi to make your "patterned paper" without using traditional patterned paper.

Here's the Rules:
  1. Use Washi as your background (as little or as much as you would like).
  2. Try not to use traditional Patterned Paper.
  3. Cards & Layouts - traditional, digital or hybrid are fine.
  4. You may do this challenge up to 3 times.
  5. No combining challenges as I like to see the Washi be the star.
  6. Post to this thread by May 31, 2023 at 11:59PM.
  7. I will randomly select 1 person for an ACOT gift card from myself.
  8. Please have fun!!!
If you have any questions, please ask!!

Re: May 2023 Washi Challenge
I LOVE your example projects! Super inspiring! Thank you for the inspiration and the fun challenge. I am not sure I will get to it (super busy with work and still finishing up the projects I have in progress that I started last weekend) but I have bookmarked this page so I can find my way back here to look at your projects again. I am really excited about all these washi placement ideas.

There's a digital washi tape trick I'm eager to share with all of you!!! I really love physical washi tape, but have decided I prefer the digital version to the physical version, because I've found that the physical version doesn't hold up very well over time. Before I got so busy at work, I was spending a lot of time at Katie Pertiet's website, and I learned a bunch of wonderful tricks for digital scrapbooking. Some of the ladies on Katie's design team use digital washi to "tape" their photos to their pages.

Physical scrappers can use this trick, too. I have been editing some of my 4x6 photos to include either digital frames or digital washi tape (or both). This makes pocket page scrapbooking soooooooooo much quicker -- and less expensive, too, if you go through a lot of washi tape, because you can reuse / recolor the digital washi and print it out as often as you want to. If you print your 4x6 photos to include the digital washi tape, it doesn't cost any more than it would have cost you to just print a 4x6 photo. It also makes it super easy to complete a page, because a few of your "layers" are already finished when you sit down to scrap your pics.

One more tip: If you don't want to pay for expensive digital scrapbooking software, you can download Gimp for free. Gimp is open source. It is similar to Photoshop -- a little less powerful in some ways but, surprisingly, in some areas has more features than Photoshop. I use it for photo editing and for "sticking" the digital washi tape onto my pics.

I'm not sure these tips will specifically help anybody with this challenge, but I wanted to share them because I have found them so useful. I hope you found them helpful.

Here is mine:

I'd never thought to do this before and I will certainly do it again!  So easy, fun and looks amazing!  I actually made this cared to send to another cherry and it's already in the mail.  I even put a washi strip on the envelope just for fun.

Re: May 2023 Washi Challenge
Well, this was not a huge success because one of my washi tapes didn't stick well. I used a thick flowered washi from Pinkfresh and the thin washi from Little B, the thin one is very old and didn't stick well. And I couldn't wrap it around the edges because there is another layout on the back. So I ended up putting more of the ephemera pack on than I would have liked because I needed it to hold down the washi.

Image

I do plan to do this again, but with a better plan if the washi doesn't stick well enough.

First Washi entry. Card with 1" Tim Holtz washi tape with sayings cut into a banner look. I just added the sentiment and a few star punches.
