I always bought those $1 ones which are pretty good for inking around paper but not for stamping. But in the fall I because a stampin up demo because of the great special they were having and now I am hooked on those inks. They are pretty good for inking and I love the full coverage on the stamps. Of course you can't get those tight corners in between die cuts with them.
For inking tight corners I use the paint-brush end of a Tombow Dual-Tip Pen in the closest color.

I love my stampin' up pads too - mine are OLD and they've just recently needed to be re-inked. And I'm pretty sure that those tiny little bottles of ink will be good for another few re-inks!

I use a tiny brush to get in the corners. My favorites are Tim Holtz Distressed as the colors are much more what I prefer to scrap with. I also like the square size, easier then my Staz-on inks to use. Another thing I like is if I want to pull the ink with the Distressed Inks I can us a damp paint brush!!! I've not tried Stampin Up pads.
I don't have a special brand, but I like the large square pads. I have some of the small tear shaped pads that stack, but the stacks come apart and I end up with ink all over the place. If I had to pick a brand, I would say Tim Holtz. I have a few of his pads and have had no problems.
I own mostly staz-on and distress inks....i tend towards those the most. Now my embossing inks are ones i picked up at michaels....i found 2 colored ones (yellow and purple) for 99cents each about a month ago (clearance sections..love em)

I use the cats eye for inking edges and I love the staz-on and Tim Holtz brands for stamping!

Love my Tim Holtz distressing ink for stamping and for around edges, When I use the Copic markers I always use my Memento inks, other great inks that I like for stamping is Archival (Ranger) and the Hero Art inks

I sold stampin up years ago and I loved their ink pads and card stock. Unfortunately, I decided I was out of stamping and got rid of all of my things. I would never do that again because I miss them and miss doing cards.
