Need Suggestions Please....

by scrap-o-holicMay 18, 2004
This is a 5x7 pic of a downtown street in Deadwood, South Dakota. I would like to do a 12X12 LO using just this pic and some embellishments. Any suggestions? TIA!

Love the picture. The town is rich (pun intended) with gold history.  Maybe you could do a play on the streets are paved with gold type thing.  Here's a site that might inspire you:

I like Kathy's title ideas, especially 'the still of the night'.  hmmmm.  I'll keep thinking, though!

Great picture Becky!  I like Kathy's suggestion of multiple mats and minimal embellishments.  I'm stumped for a title though.  I'll think on it.

Everyone is right the picture is great. My suggestion would be keep it simple, as not to take away from the picture. Maybe even a simple tite..City lights or night rain.

I think I would scrap it with minimal embellishments. I'd have to play with colors of papers, but right now I'm thinking something black/gold, maybe dark red. I'd probably double or triple mat the picture. I would want all the focus to be on the picture and not on any embellishments. I'm thinking maybe a classically and minimally styled tag with a simple title on it. Maybe "In the still of the night" or "I love a rainy night" ( or something else...can't quite put my mind on the words just now) and then in small print under the title just put Deadwood, SD, and the date.

Great photo. It reminds me of how I did LO of several different street scenes. In one, I blew a copy of the picture up and cut out a box showcasing the lights. This was an important part of the overall theme of the street. I also did the same to a store front window in the picture. I laid it all out on a piece of metallic threaded mulberry paper, the placed the 2 smaller boxes that showcased the lights and the store window on the lower right hand corner of the street picture. These were placed offset of each other. It looked really good when I finished it. I put a walnut inked tag with some old keys on it. Hope this helps. Sorry, I can't describe it better.

Wow that is a tough one.  Thinking too!  How about putting a frame around it and doing some embellishments with either a motorcycle theme or using the different storefronts.

Unfortunately, I have no suggestions for you.  But, I wanted to let you know that it is a great photo.   I love the light reflecting off of the street.
