I had the idea for this when my daughter received a melissa and doug gift set that came with a little wooden tray. I thought it would be just perfect to put a diorama in. Then I thought it might be fun to put glitter inside so she could shake it. I painted the purple tray with gesso followed by white paint. Then I glued the paper to the back before adding all the hand-cut pop up elements. I used stacked cardboard to give them varying heights. I also glued a bit of a window screen at the top to hold the glitter, hoping that it would sort of sift down, but that didnt really work out like I planned. After all the popups were in place, I glued the plastic from a toy package to the front of the box on three sides. After that was thoroughly dry, I added a ton of glitter into the box, before gluing it shut. Finally, I added the frame, which is made from a transparency on which I printed a frame from (need to fill this in) that I resized. After the transparency was printed, I attached it to the patterned paper using my atg gun around the inner edge where I knew I was going to cover it with stickles. Then I cut around the edge.
The bird is tattered angels, the punches are martha stewart and the sprig of green and silver twigs are unknown - something I picked up at a craft store.
The glitter doesnt sift down through the screen like I hoped, but ellie still thinks it is pretty darn cool that she has a little shaker with pictures of her in it.
