November Theme Contest - Grateful

by koala1966Nov 25, 2006
I'm grateful for my car

Journaling:
I waited a long time for the car of my dreams. I carefully selected it, researched it (OK, I mean I paid attention while John researched it), and patiently waited for the right moment in our lives. We visited the dealership many times to scout out the ride, but on the day we made the purchase I knew the time had come. I didn’t hesitate, didn’t blink when John negotiated the deal, and when the dealer accepted I wrote out the check with a clear conscious. Big purchases are very stressful for me, but this time it was as if a weight had been lifted from my shoulders.

I didn’t buy my car because I thought it would turn heads, or as a status symbol – I seriously underestimated the attention it would get. I bought my car because it was the only car on the road that I wanted with any kind of passion. I bought my car because it handles like a dream, it looks cool both on the inside and the outside, and it feels like me. I bought my car because it has a great safety record and holds its value. I bought my car because the maintenance plan can’t be beat, and the dealership offers free Starbucks, donuts, popcorn and internet access while I wait, and a free loaner car if waiting doesn’t fit my schedule. John offered me any number of cars, and none of them captivated my attention the way this car did. I knew I would love driving this car.

I do. I love driving this car. I’ve never loved driving before owning this car. It drives like a dream. And it’s everything I wanted – I didn’t have to settle on anything. I not only got the black exterior that I insisted on, I also got the charcoal interior that I hoped for. Every time I sink into the leather seats that I never thought I would like (and now adore), close the door, and find myself greeted with the delightful silence of a well-built machine, I thank God for providing me the means to make this purchase. It’s just a machine, and shouldn’t be important to me, but I absolutely love having the opportunity to enjoy it. It makes me happy. I’m grateful to God for the blessings in my life, and I count this as one of those blessings.
