Basic Grey Sugar Rush

See what you can do with these sweet papers!

I loved these fun, bright papers from Basic Grey for Valentine's Day. This line is jam-packed with papers, embellishments and even a card pack. There are brads, stickers, doily papers, double-sided papers, chipboard, several alphas, rub-ons,stamps, pre-made embellishments, a few different journaling options and buttons. Take a look to see what I put together using a combination of these products…

Lucky Us

I've been using my sewing machine a lot lately, and this layout was no exception. I stiched down a background  piece to the cardstock, then lifted the edges with my finger nail. I traced an acrylic heart from Fancy Pants onto the fun Airhead paper, cut it out and stiched it on, too. I added a few strips using one of the papers and a border sticker. My journaling went on one of the pieces from the Writer's Block pack. These packs have 2 stacks of sticky-note papers, 2 stacks of die-cut spots and a notebook of journaling sheets that you can tear off or could use as a type of list and leave all the sheets in tact. The Take Note pack has several journaling spots with transparent overlays that you can use together or separately. I used the transparent sheet from one as a layer under the photo, too- you can see the heart from it peeking out to the right of the chipboard house. I added a few of the large Glazed Brads to the top of the stitched paper, as well.

This Kiss

Some of the papers in this line have very large, bold designs. To use the Candy Hearts sheet from this line, I let it stand alone on the bottom three-quarters of the page. I did add a few small photos to the bottom corner along with one of the Writer's Block die-cuts topped with a sticke The top quarter of my layout holds the photo, title, and journaling. This cute journaling spot used both the paper and transparent parts of one of the Take Note pieces. The transparent sheet is held on with Glue-dots. One other thing you'll notice on this layout (and just about every layout I've done in the last 3 months) is a large scalloped strip. This is made with the EK Success Embossed Curve Edger Punch. You seriously need this punch! Like I said, I've used it on just about everything I've done lately. You'll be so glad you have it- it really beats tracing die-cut paper and cutting it out like I have done in the past.

Photo Shoot Fun

I had a group of photos that were bright and fun and pretty much spoke for themselves. They didn't need much to make them pop off the page. Instances like this are when I like to use white space. The first thing I did was spray black cardstock with Pearl Glimmer Mist. It was a fun, easy way to dress up the page- the silvery mist really stands out on the black. I cut strips from four of the papers and layered them under the photos. I added a strip with some of the stickers at the bottom, then doodled a border around the edges with my white pen. Adding a stitched or hand-drawn border sometimes just pulls everything together.

Sleep Tight

One of the biggest trends that many manufacturers showed off at CHA was the cute triangle banners. I had been wanting to do one on a layout for awhile and remembered this sweet picture I had of Quinn as a baby that went perfectly with these papers. I cut my triangles, arranged them how I wanted them, then used a little adhesive on the bottom to hold them in place while I stitched them with my sewing machine. I left the starting and ending threads long to hang down like strings on a banner (it's hard to see them in the photo, though). I used the banner for my title by adding Thickers to each triangle. I made a little cluster using stickers from the sticker sheet, buttons and pearls. I also added a strip punched with the Martha Stewart Double Doily Lace punch.
