- Contests & Challenges

My yellow color challenge entry. I threaded the fibers through eyelets at each corner to form a barrier around the page, along the protection theme. The title was inspired by something Nicholas Cage said in "National Treasure" when asked if he and his friend were treasure hunters - "We're more like treasure protectors." What I forgot to put in the journaling is that Uncle Donald has been known to buy items off of family members just to keep heirlooms in the family (like my Grandma's 3 foot doll that she had for at least 20 years, and wanted to sell to give money to one of her great-grandchildren).

Journaling:

In Uncle Donald’s house you will find a wonderful and unusual collection of antiques and collectibles. I say unusual because as a child I never would have imagined Uncle Donald as the collector type. He keeps it all on display throughout his house, garage and even yard. Treasures range from antique clocks along the walls to a larger than life Dough Boy which stands at the end of his driveway welcoming guests. On every visit a new addition is introduced to the visitor, anything from a classic toy or an old sign. Each item is carefully select and Uncle Donald’s eyes light up as he shares his latest find. On one wall of the shed hang some old tools. One of them is the machete that Grandpa Major made and the family used while Uncle Donald was growing up in Pittsview. Each item has meaning to Uncle Donald but some such as this one is extra special as a family heirloom.

Supplies:

patterned paper - Provo Craft Scrap Pads

cardstock - paperbilities

brads - All My Memories

alphabet stickers for brads - All My Memories

vellum

ink

fibers - EK Success Adornments

eyelets - Making Memories
