Colleague, Friend, and Leader
by Stormy_CatAug 17, 2005

This is my little tribute to Peter Jennings, and how his death affected me. I took some random pictures of things to make a collage effect.

The is hidden journaling under the hinged 1st page, and pages 1 and 2 line up.

Products used:

Basic Grey - Fusion - Patterned paper, Monograms and tags

Making Memories - Rub ons, brads, hinges, mailbox letters.and a photo turn.

Ink - Colorbok - Chalk ink - charcoal

Silk flowers

Journaling on pg 1 front reads:

He has been our Colleague, our Friend and our Leader in so many ways. None of us will be the smae without him.

Hidden journaling on inside of pg 1 - Quote

"There are a lot of people who think our job is to reassure the public every night that their home, their community and their nation is safe," he told author Jeff Alan. "I don't subscribe to that at all. I subscribe to leaving people with essentially — sorry it's a cliché — a rough draft of history. Some days it's reassuring, some days it's absolutely destructive."

Personal Journaling hidden on pg 1

Peter Jennings

I don’t know why his death touched me. It’s not like I watched him all the time or followed his career. Maybe I am just at that age when you realize that life is not forever. Specifically your life is not forever. One day you will be here and then you won’t.

I guess the thing that got me was when I was watching the news that morning, that they were not just reporting his death, but remembering his life. I think he would have approved of this broadcast; it was fitting for such a well respected and trusted man.

I continued to watch the news, learning so much more about this man, that I had seen a thousand times, but really knew nothing about. I learned that he was Canadian; I learned that he dropped out of high school; I learned he was a family man. I sat glued to the TV, soaking in all the information about him that I could.

Then a commercial came on, and it simply said that he was our colleague, our friend, our leader. It was just a quick little blurb with his picture, and the somber music playing in the background. It was so simple, and beautiful, that I found myself crying. I sat there and thought what wonderful words they were and how they rang so true.

Of course that got me thinking of myself and where my life was going. I tried to imagine what my friends and family would say about me after I was gone. Would they say I was a good mother and wife? Was I a true friend? Was I a leader? I guess the big question is, was my life a good one. Its amazing how a news anchors death, led me to question my own life and how I was leading it. What changes would I make, where would my life take me? I don’t have the answers to those questions. I have no idea where my life will take me. I only hope I can continue to lead my life in a positive way, I hope it is long, I hope it is filled with more blessings, and even sorrow, as both of those make you stronger. I hope that people will think of me with honor, respect, and love. I hope that I have touched lives for the better. I hope I simply lived my life to its fullest.

God Bless you Peter Jennings, may you rest in peace.
